In 2021 Hipster Whale launched a new "premium" edition of their iconic "Crossy Road" title to Apple Arcade named "Crossy Road+", this took the original game's formula and added extra challenge and progression features.
While working on the game my task was to concept and design a challenges system where players could earn rewards by completing challenges as they played.
One of the game's new features was an overworld called "Crossy Park" that would grow and populate as the player progressed through the game, so I designed the challenge system as a "Jobs Board" that would have a physical place within the park.
I wireframed the jobs board screen itself and how players would access it, as well as when we would present the information of their progress to players after each game. Also the board itself needed to be responsive across various screen sizes and orientations.
I then mocked up the layouts to match the "Crossy Road" art style, and once approved I turned those mockups into assets to be brought into the game.
This was a project I worked on early in my time at Hipster Whale and I look back on it fondly as it was another opportunity to learn about how to work with and design for these games, I also admit there was a bit of a starstruck feeling at the time at being able to work on the Aussie indie legend "Crossy Road".
